Kids In Racing: Tripp’s “A Dose Of NASCAR”
This is part of our on going “Kids In Racing” series where we put the spot light on kids that are involved in racing. Any kind of involvement by a child is acceptable. Could be a blogger, driver, mechanic, graphic designer, employed at a local track, pit member and the list goes on. If you know of a child that is participating in racing in some fashion, let us know so that we can contact them or have them CONTACT US.
Now, let me ask you something. Have you had “A Dose of NASCAR” recently? That is exactly what 9 year old Richard Miller known as “Tripp” does. Tripp is a blogger who loves NASCAR and loves to tell people what is going on in the world of NASCAR.
Tripp first got hooked on NASCAR at a very young age by hanging out with his Nana and Papa on race day. He watched so much racing and listened to his Nana and Papa so much that his first word was “Dale”.
So I can only imagine that his Nana and Papa are huge Dale Earnhardt Sr. fans. And with Dale being Tripp’s first word, well he is also a Sr. fan. He is also a big fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s and Tripp admits that he is mostly a Jr. fan because that is Dale’s son. I am pretty sure that is the case for a lot of people.
How in the world did this 9 year old boy get into blogging about NASCAR? Once you look at everything it is pretty easy to see how he ended up blogging. Tripp’s Mom has a blog called “Three Boys and a Dog”. Tripp wanted to do one like his Mom so his Dad told him that he should, but to do one about something that he really enjoys.
On good advice from Dad and a good example to follow from Mom, “A Dose of NASCAR” was born.
Tripp is also home schooled so I was curious if his blog gave him credit for some school work. Like maybe English, writing or something along those lines. Here is Tripp’s answer –
No credit for my blog this year – my mom won’t let me post without reading it first because she doesn’t want me saying mean stuff. But, she doesn’t know anything about Nascar so she doesn’t know if I mess up or not.
Well, I say what Mom don’t know, don’t hurt her! But come on Mom, IT’S NASCAR! You got to love it!
Like most bloggers Tripp does not post nearly as much as he would like to. He told me that he was posting almost everyday then life got busy. I think every blogger out there understands that. Now that school is out he is hoping to ramp up his postings.
Tripp also hangs around a great group of people. He says his friends all love NASCAR. Actually what he told me was that his friends don’t really know about his blog but that his friends on the internet think that it is really cool.
Now Tripp has never been to a NASCAR race but he can not wait until he is a little older for his Nana and Papa take him to his first one. I hope that is a blog post that I don’t miss.
Even though he has not been to an actual race (like so many fans out there) he definitely has his favorite track. Talladega Superspeedway, who can argue with that choice? There has been some great racing there lately.
There are several reasons Tripp likes Talladega Superspeedway.
Talladega, because you can go over 203 miles per hour… it is the fastest race track in NASCAR, plus it is in my home state!
There are other series that interest Tripp besides just the Sprint Cup series. He is also a fan or NASCAR’s Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. On top of that he also likes watching the ARCA series.
Now you’re probably thinking there has to be something else that a 9 year old kid likes besides NASCAR. How about Lego’s. That brings back memories for me. While Tripp sticks to the NASCAR and racing theme by building race cars and tracks out of Lego’s, I always loved my Space Lego’s. Lego’s are hours and hours of entertainment.
As for a career when he “grows up” ,Tripp would obviously like to be either a race car driver or on the pit crew for Dale Earnhardt Jr. If neither one of those strategies work out, he plans on becoming an Architect.
Wait a minute. Ok, we have this blogger here. This 9 year old NASCAR blogger. We haven’t even drilled him on NASCAR yet. I asked him some questions. But I REALLY encourage you to read through his blog and keep up on it. He does a really good job!
Alright, let the quiz begin.
While I was trolling through Tripp’s blog I found a post about Brad Keselowski wining at Talladega (http://adoseofnascar.blogspot.com/2009/05/winning-rookie.html). So here was my question and his answer.
Who do you think is the best Rookie this year and why? Do you think they will win the Rookie Of Year award?
Well, the most improved rookie is Joey Lagano… only Scott Speed and Joey Lagano are in the category. Joey is in 20th position in points and Scott is in 35th. So, Scott would have to qualify on time and he usually does. I think Joey will win it.
Who do you honestly think will win the 2009 Sprint Cup Championship and why?
Well, Mark Martin because he has won (I think) three races and he is in the top twelve.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is not having a great year this year. Why do you think that he is not doing that good this year? (THIS QUESTION WAS ASKED BEFORE THE CREW CHIEF CHANGE AT THE #88 TEAM)
Well, because he has to think about the Busch series, too and his team in the Busch series. I don’t think Tony Eury Jr, Dale Jr’s cousin and crew chief is doing a very good job – because he disagrees and takes two stops and that isn’t the right thing.. Jr will be 2 laps down with that. The crew isn’t doing so great either because of all the bad pit-stops. Jr is just really catching bad breaks this year. Seems like one thing or another
What do you think of Kyle Busch? A lot of people don’t like him, but I think it is kind of obvious that a lot of fans do also like him.
Do not like Kyle Busch because he wrecks Jr constantly. I know not many people like him because if he wins after wrecking out Jr lots of fans throw stuff at him!
Are there any rules in NASCAR that you can think of that you would like to see changed?
Restrictor Plate Racing. I don’t want their speed restricted and do not like the double yellow line at super speedway. I think they should do 5 more races for the Championship because it would give them more time to get points.
Alright, head over to A Dose Of NASCAR and say hi to Tripp. Be nice and mind your manners. His Mom not only checks up on what Tripp is writing about, but also checks the overall content of his site.

Great article Tripp! Your responses are so well thought out. Great call on the crew chief. Now we will see if that helps with winning races. Keep it up.
