Dear ABC, Your Viewers Would Like To See The Chase – Not Commercials
While everyone completely understands that TV channels need to have advertising to stay in business, the number of commercials that ABC and ESPN puts into their NASCAR broadcasts is absolutely ridiculous.
It is so bad that it is painfully obvious to regular NASCAR views that your ESPN and ABC NASCAR broadcasts load up a lot more commercials than any of the other networks. Twitter is constantly buzzing about this while races are happening. There are now You Tube videos talking about this.
It is so bad that people are looking forward to Digger on the FOX network over all the commercials that your networks put out. And I hope you were paying attention earlier this year when people were completely done with Digger. Digger hunting parties were formed. Everyone was complaining about Digger and were sick of seeing him.
But Digger was not interfering with the viewers ability to watch the NASCAR race. And truth be told that camera angle the FOX has dubbed “Digger” is a cool camera angle.
But when we are talking about commercial, then your viewers are not watching NASCAR. They are watching ads that you are putting up. What does this result in? This past race at Richmond International Raceway is a perfect example. NASCAR fans and other people that were tuned to your network missed at least 1 restart after a caution. When the race was about 2 laps under green flag conditions your network (ABC) finally brought us back to the race. Even those that are not that interested in NASCAR know that the restarts can bring some of the best action and racing. How your network doesn’t know that is absolutely amazing.
And this is a problem that does not just happen every once in a while. People associate your networks with a ton of commercials and missed racing due to those commercials during NASCAR races.
And that race was an important, one that people wanted to see a lot of. Who was going to make the Chase? We wanted to know and we wanted to see most of the race. At the end of the race I think most people felt like they saw more commercials then they did racing. I will be interested to see the stats on that later this week.
Now that the Chase For The Sprint Cup is starting you need to realize that NASCAR fans want to see the race and not commercial. It is still fresh in NASCAR fans minds when you left a race last year in order to show your “Funniest Video’s show or what ever it is. This is the Chase that we are entering into. It is the playoffs. Please don’t bombard us with your commercials. We want to see racing.
You know your network is wrong when people want Digger back over your network.

I hate Digger, but I would have to agree that I will take Digger over ABC coverage because of all the commercials. That is down right ridiculous! The Chase is important and I want to see it. Not watch 6 laps of racing and then 10 minutes of commercials! ABC is awful!
yeah, and it’s not only the commercials….I really don’t care for the coverage either….that is when we get to see it.
