At Least 3 Years Until Danica Patrick Comes To NASCAR Full Time

It appears for now at least that NASCAR will not have to see Danica Patrick in NASCAR. At least not full time.

It appears that she has signed a 3 year deal with Andretti Green Racing. This means we don’t have to really worry about her coming over to the NASCAR side of the house for the next couple of years at least.

This doesn’t mean you won’t see her in a NASCAR series though. There has been speculation that she will run a partial Truck and Nationwide schedule next year. We will see how that pans out. Maybe she will taste it and not like it.

But if you want Danica Patrick in NASCAR or not, three years is a long time. She could conceivably run in quite a few NASCAR Camping World Truck and Nationwide Series races along with some Cup races. This could give her a lot of seat time in the next 3 years to try and get it figured out and decide where she wants to stay (or go to).

And of course Tony Stewart is pretty confident that she is eventually coming to NASCAR. This is his comments a couple of weeks ago.

“I know that that’s what she wants to do,” Stewart said. “She looked me straight in the eye and said, ‘Hey, this is what I want to do. It looks like fun — it looks like a lot of work, but it looks like fun.’

“I don’t think she has some misguided idea that it’s going to be easy doing it. She wants to do it the right way. She has the intentions to do everything right.”

I also don’t think that she thinks it will be easy.

Well, for now it would appear that the speculation over Danica’s next move is over, at least for the short term.

This is what indystar.com is reporting at least.

This is sports. People get out of contracts every day. After a year of of splitting her time between IRL and NASCAR, if Danica wants to she will probably get out of her AGR contract.

Another option would be running a partial Sprint Cup schedule during years 2 and 3, only missing the weekends that she is obligated to AGR for.

Either way, I’m leaning more to her possibly winding up at Stewart-Haas. How about Kevin Harvick joining SHR in 2011, with Danica running for KHI in trucks and Nationwide. Then in 2012 she can run Cup for SHR.

    Just my musings.

Oh yeah, your right about this being sports. And it would sweeten the deal for her if the cup team she goes with “assists her” in getting out of that contract.

I think most people know that Stewart-Hass Racing is my favorite team. That stems from being a Newman fan for years now. So, I am in favor of Harvick coming over. Not so much in favor of Danica coming over…..at all to NASCAR.

But I think what you suggest makes sense and that is probably what we will see happen. One way or another I think she will end up at SHR. Not sure if Tony really wants her, or if Hendrick is leaning on him a little.

The Haas of Stewart-Haas is not the same guy as Carl Haas of Newman-Haas racing. So Stewart-Haas doesn’t have to be your favorite team.

Nobody seems to think that Andretti wouldn’t go to NASCAR? He can follow Penske, Ganassi, Stewart… Even Newman-Haas was going before Yates dumped them.

Tom..I know my teams…somewhat at least. I was referring to Ryan Newman driver of the #39 US Army Chevy for Stewart Haas Racing. Newman (NASCAR) raced fo Penske last year.

It is what it is. She will or she won’t. Sounds stupid but that’s really how you have to look at it. If she decides to come I don’t think Stewart-Haas will be her only option. I’m pretty sure she won’t be running and races next year at all, I also thinks alot depends on how her Indy racing goes over the next year or so. She wants to be the first woman to win the Indy 500 and she wants a championship, I do believe she will base he move to NASCAR based on what she gets out of Indy over the next year or 2 at least. The championship there right now is what her goal is.
I’m sure at some point she is going to give NASCAR a shot, but I think when she comes here she’d like to have proven herself at least by having won an Indy 500 or have amassed more wins than one in the Indy series, her ultimate goal has always been to be the IRL champion.
