Nationwide Phoenix – Edwards Wins While Keselowski And Hamlin Go Bump – Again
Carl Edwards won Saturday’s Nationwide race at Phoenix International Raceway and maintains 2nd in the points behind point leader Kyle Busch.
One big problem. While Ron Horaday Jr. grabbed NASCAR’s Truck Series Championship this weekend, Kyle isn’t quite there yet in the Nationwide Series. But all Kyle Busch has to do is show and start next weekends race and he will be NASCAR’s Nationwide 2009 Champion as he now enjoys a 190 point lead over Kyle Busch.
We didn’t get to see the traditional back flip from Edwards today though because he is still recovering from a broken foot he got while playing Frisbee back in September. But he did get out of his car and roll around. Yes you heard me correctly, he rolled around. Great show.
Oh yeah. Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin spiced things up again by getting into each other. It started towards the end of the race on a restart. Hamlin got into the back of Keselowski and pushed him up the track. He then went under Keselowski.
That’s racing.
So on the next turn Keselowski does pretty much the same thing. He bumps Hamlin, sending him up the track and tries to put his nose under Hamlin and perform the same move.
Now it kind of gets a little tricky. Did Keselowski go up the track a little and give Hamlin no room, or did Hamlin come back down putting his rear quarter panel into the nose of Keselowski’s car?
Your decision, but the end result was Denny Hamlin spinning. The announcers and I imagine most of you jumped to the conclusion that it was all Keselowski’s fault. I’m not so fast to jump on that wagon.
Here is part of what Keselowski said –
When he did it to me, I saved it. When I did it to him, he didn’t save it.
So I will rephrase my answer a little. I think Hamlin was able to execute the move better. Keselowski failed at executing the move. I willing to bet that is because Hamlin’s move was racing and while Brad’s move was basically the same move, it was driven out of anger or revenge.
And really Keselowki’s comment is incorrect. Hamlin did save the bump. He got spun after that was over.
Well, I will rephrase that a little.
